Work (experience)

So... for my work experience I decided to take advantage of the uniqueness of Brighton and went to work for a small shop located in Brighton lanes, which was run by a husband and wife team, called Red Mutha. I was so excited and entusiastic before starting when I arrived I went downstairs and it was like an Aladins cave of 'stuff'. Wow if you want ethical this place sure is ethical, they throw away nothing. For the two weeks I was there I would come to think of myself as 'accesories girl', which basically involved making accesories outy of stuff (one of the necklaces I made is above). So... what did I learn? It was extremely useful to see how their business was run but more so to talk to the staff that worked their (two girls). They were both persueing careers but one had gone to university and one had not. Also it was great to find out about the people who sent their clothes to the shop to be sold some were frankly shocking and others beautiful.

Take the dress above made by Dig For Victory ( www.digforvictoryclothing.com ) designed and made by Eleanor Callaghan she runs a sustainable fashion design business and sources the most beautiful vintage textiles. The shape structure and cut of the clothes are beautiful! If you have a chance definitely check out the gallery on her website this will give you a better insight. The photo below is taken from The Gallery, I am loving the pattern cutting!
